Feasibility for a Harry Clarke Museum in Dublin
In late 2023 I was commissioned by Dublin City Council to do a Feasibility on the viability of a single artist museum in the city. Notably the stained glass artist Harry Clarke.
Clarke’s family stained glass business had operated in North Frederick Street supplying stunning glass to ecclesiastical clients throughout the world. Many fine examples are in locations around Ireland, and in the collections of the Hugh Lane Dublin City Gallery and Trinity College Dublin.
My work was to align a museum location to strategic planning policy for the North inner city as a cultural hub, establish likely visitor numbers, and run costings for its ongoing operations. I costed two scenarios, a CLG licenced operator, or a DCC staffed operations, and the project could break even in year 3 in scenario A and year one (ex capital costs) in scenario B. Failte Ireland donated a building in Parnell Square early in 2024, after the Feasibility was presented to Dublin City Council.
The project is in project planning phase as part of the Parnell Cultural Quarter.
