Creative Campus Feasibility 2020

Liberties Creative Campus Map

In 2020 a year-long Feasibility process was undertaken to establish the viability of using two locations in Dublin 8 for creative infrastructure.  A derelict site on Bridgefoot Street was identified as a possible site for a new public facing community creative space.  In addition two buildings at 8 and 9 Merchant’s Quay (with an old community theatre space at the rear), were identified for artists’ studios in the upper floors and a new intimate theatre space to the rear to replace the former Little St. Anthony’s Theatre.

The project was a collaboration between a number of Companies, and resulted in a successful URDF application on behalf of Dublin City Council, unlocking €16.5m in funding.  An additional building at 7 Merchant’s Quay was given to the project by the Franciscan Order. Planning permission was granted in July 2026, and the project is progressing under the design lead McCullough Mulvin Architects.
